Courtney M. Lawless, AI strategy and operational transformation

Her career wasn't built on maintenance. It was built on movement.

Today she leads Lawless Consulting, working on AI strategy and operational transformation, inside or outside the organization. She also serves as Fractional CTO on a clinical AI platform.

Her work has been featured on Amazon Prime, NBC, FOX, and Cheddar, and covered by Forbes, the Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Business Journal, Benzinga, Authority Magazine, Business News Daily, Philly Voice, Technically Philly, South Philly Review, The Digital Executive, Thrive, and WWD.

Over 25 years Courtney M. Lawless has operated across institutional capital, private equity, venture, compliance, technology, defense, and emerging AI, across every major executive role and every major sector.

She started in finance, building expertise in institutional capital, private placements, and compliance. She rose to lead private placement strategy raising over $5 billion across multiple sectors, including health and wellness, consumer brands, real estate, energy, and biotech, managing full-cycle LP engagement from positioning through capital close. She built compliance infrastructure from the ground up as Chief Compliance Officer of a $500 million hedge fund, while also serving as principal executive of the founding family's $100 million family office, creating the systems for internal control, reporting, and audit readiness. She served as a strategic advisor at Morgan Stanley across ultra-high-net-worth advisory and complex institutional fund structures, bridging sponsors, advisors, and allocators in ways that required fluency in both the capital and the business underneath it.

She moved into venture as a general partner at Backswing Ventures, backing 15 early-stage companies across AI, SaaS, and govtech. As CEO of MoxeHub, a global software development consultancy, she grew revenue 13× in nine months, scaling to more than 70 people across North America, Latin America, Europe, and Asia and delivering enterprise solutions across pharmaceutical, federal, and commercial sectors.

She then built into defense technology from scratch. No roadmap. No existing division. She navigated DoD procurement, earned ATO sponsorship, and led an enterprise operating model transformation inside the U.S. Marine Corps, bringing in an AI-enabled talent platform to modernize a 250-year-old recruiting framework, with approval reaching the Department of the Navy. Over an 18-month timeline, the work identified more than seven legacy tools for replacement that were creating security risks, and her research methodology was adopted as institutional doctrine. The platform earned a Red Dot Award for design excellence and redefined what recruiting technology looks like at the intersection of commercial and military technology.

That work became a discipline of its own: how to find, hire, and keep top talent, including hard-to-find technical talent, using lessons drawn from the military, industry, and psychology. She now brings it to organizations working to raise their quality of hire.

Across her companies she has led full development organizations, from engineers and architects to cybersecurity, AI, and design, and built AI systems hands-on, including retrieval and agent architectures. She is an AWS Certified Solutions Architect.

Twenty-five years. Every major executive role. Every major sector. The through line is not the industry. It is the execution.
